Making Sure Your Healthcare Uniform is Clean

Making Sure Your Healthcare Uniform is Clean
Many different employees all have to have high-quality uniforms that continue to impress patients and clients. Here are some tips for making sure your healthcare uniform is clean.

Are you part of the healthcare industry? Most of the time, many people automatically assume that you either work in a hospital or a pharmacy. However, healthcare is a broad category. Many different employees all have to have high-quality uniforms that continue to impress patients and clients. Here are some tips for making sure your healthcare uniform is clean.

Split the Loads

One of the first things you will want to do is split the loads. When you have to wash your medical uniforms offsite – either at home or a laundromat – you will want to be sure that it can’t contaminate anything else. Scrubs, in particular, are harder to clean than ordinary clothes are. This will help you ensure that there isn’t any cross-contamination with the blood and the germs on your healthcare uniform. Arguably, everything we touch is covered in bacteria and can be exposed to blood, but most of the time, what we deal with isn’t biohazardous.

Watch the Temperature

Once you start the laundry machines, keep an eye on how high the temperatures are. For medical uniforms, this needs to be hot. Even if you plan on washing your other pieces of laundry in cold water, it’s for the best if you clean all of your healthcare uniforms on hot. Don’t worry about shrinkage. Plus, you might also need to use bleach, which can react badly with the colors in your everyday clothes – after all, bleach tends to fade even the brightest colors.

Use Better Detergent

While regular detergent may work for other types of clothing, healthcare uniforms require different methods. For the best results, you will need to start using better detergent than you did before. This helps you remove all of the grease, grime, and bodily fluids you might encounter, and you should also avoid anything scented. By doing this, you can prevent any allergic reactions from affecting the patients under your care.

Wash Before Wearing Again

Another important reminder is always to wash your scrubs after you wear them. Sometimes it can get desperate, especially if your life regularly goes in a direction where you don’t have the time or energy to do all of your laundries by yourself.

Don’t Use Your Hands

Even so, don’t use your hands to wash to your healthcare uniform. Run the rinse cycle to help clear anything off before you add it into another load of laundry.
